About IIT Madras

IIT Madras
IIT-Madras
Hello, everyone, I am Yash Bhusare, student of IIT-Madras. I am starting a new series of blogs where you can find photos and information of some of the IITs. Information like Hostel, Mess, classrooms, etc

Classrooms-  In your first year, you will have to share classrooms with a different branch because the first-year syllabus is almost same for the whole institute. First year’s typical room will look like this.

Hostel - In your first year, you will need to share your room with someone. Don't get scared of him/her (My roommate is one of my best friend). I will be honest with you here, your room will end as soon as you get inside, but this is the place that will give you a lot of memories, It will teach you many things. After second year you will get a single room and you will be allotted a new hostel(but you will have to share a triple room for one semester ). Each hostel is equipped with TV room, Tech room, Table tennis, reading room, Music room, etc.

Food/mess- A mess will be assigned to you at the time of admission, which you can change after a month. After around every month you have to fill a preference list for the mess and then a new mess will be allocated to you (pro tip- always fill the list in a group so that you will get the first preference). Majorly two types of the mess, North Indian, and South Indian are working on the campus. A typical North Indian thali will look like the above picture.

If you are not satisfied with mess food then you can go to Ramu or Gurunath (Both are good especially if you are low on budget) the last photo in this section is taken in gurunath and I guess you can read Ramu in the second image. Apart from this we also have a juice shop, zaitoon, suprabha, and CCD if you want to go on a date (If you get one :P). each shop in the institute is subsidized (even CCD).

OAT(open-air theatre) - every Saturday a movie is shown in OAT. At the time of SAARANG OAT looks like this. Don't want to write too much about OAT as it is an experience which you will get only when you come to the institute.

Animals - Well keep in mind that IIT-M is in the jungle, so lots of animals also live with you. Never ever keep your door open, Monkeys will attack your room if you do so, they will check every item in your room and will take all your food, so always keep your door closed (It should be locked). With monkeys, you will also get to see deer and black buck every day with normal cats and dogs.

CFI (Center for Innovation) -  One of the best and one of its kind, CFI is the best placed in IIT-M.

Walk in with an idea and walk out with a project. A lot of student-run projects are completed here.

A great team of mentors is there for mentoring you. You just need an idea and enthusiasm for doing a project.

Different clubs are working in CFI like Horizon- Astronomy and Physics club, Raftaar (automobile design), programming, elec, Computer Vision, etc.

You can read about CFI and its projects here - cfi.iitm.ac.in/main/

(BTW second photo in this section is of CFIs family and the third Photo is taken by our Horizon-Astronomy and Physics club.)

Weather - well Chennai has only three seasons hot, hotter, and hottest.
at the time of end semester exam, it will be so hot that only library (AC) will be your best bet. But at the time of December, it will rain heavily. Don't expect cold in Chennai.

I am going to update this blog whenever I get time and soon I am going to write the next part of this series, where you will get insider pictures from different IITs so stay tuned
(Do check my other blogs about Perefect branch factors you should consider before joinig any college

If you like my work then don't forget to share this with your friends and relatives.

And for those of you who are going to join IIT-M, Welcome to IIT-Madras

Best of Luck !!

Cheers!!

  1. Could you recommend what to choose between IIT M and IISER Mohali for MSc. Physics? IISER Mohali offers Int. PhD.

IITs and IISERs

Let me introduce myself, I am Yash Bhusare. Currently I am perceiving four years program (2016-2020) of Engineering Physics at IIT Madras. Recently I came across many students going through a dilemma, which is better, IIT’s or IISER. There are many myths about IITs and IISER, some consider that IITs outclass IISER which is not the case (even true in some aspects). Here in this blog I would like to put-up the true scenario. This blog mostly takes into account the students who are confused whether to opt for EP/BS/MS courses from IITs and BS/MS courses from IISER.    Both these institutes come from a very different background and thus there is no point in comparing the two. One comes from research background while the other brings technical education and a quite popular image with it.    On a first note I would suggest that if you are getting IISc and you are keen in Research and higher studies, then without a second thought you should go for it. Engineering physics

Hi I am YASH BHUSARE , Engineering Physics student from IIT-M.In this blog I my going to tell you about the branch Engineering Physics and what you can expect from it. Although it covers many things about branch , but whatever I am going to write will be true for IIT-M . But it is worth of reading if you are planning for engineering physics .   Syllabus : EP   department at IIT-M is collaborated with electrical department .(here electrical may misguide you as electrical is electronics + electrical at IIT-M ) .You are introduced to physics courses like Quantum Mechanics , electrodynamics , solid state physics , statistical physics ,etc . Maths is the language of physics so in each semester you have courses from maths and some electrical department courses .and also EP lab etc. Here are the syllabus of EP at IIT-M , IIT-B , IIT-D , IIT-Guwahati . You can also have a look at what wik...
